“Who [God] also hath made us able minister of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” (II Corinthians 3:6)
This text shows us that Jesus presents a BETTER way. “…Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord or hosts (Zechariah 4:6 b)” God’s Spirit will never disagree with His Word, but rather provides clarity, guidance, and direction for our lives.
Jesus said “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:6)”
Also, we should rely HEAVILY on God’s Spirit for DAILY DIRECTION as Jesus said: ” Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).”
TEXT: MATTHEW 5:31-42
(31)”It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: (32) But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
(33) Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: (34) But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne. (35) Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. (36) Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black (37) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: forwhatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
(38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. (39) but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. (41) And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. (42) Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
